I like to take an active role when it comes to new hires for my business.
Of course, there are parts of this that I can comfortably delegate to others but it means a lot to me to play an integral role in who joins my company. The reason for this is that I want to make sure that any new member of staff are positive people. Hear me out.
Not just in business, even in your personal life, it is so important to surround yourself with positive people.
First, let’s look at this on the flip side.
Negative people – and we all know the types – come with negative outcomes. Their glasses are always half empty, if not completely empty! This means that any positive energy in a relationship, situation or location is essentially drowned out by the negative energy. There is always a gloomy outlook and as a result, negativity breeds negativity. It’s infectious, and negative people are the infection.
To be happy and successful, you can’t make room for negative people in your life. If you’re trying hard to make something work, a negative person would say ‘what’s the point?’ or ‘it won’t work’ or ‘just leave it’. They’ll demotivate you, they’ll deter you and ultimately, that attitude will defeat you!
Now – the positive people.
This has the complete adverse effect – for the better.
Positive people are on your side, even if you’re not on it yet! They bring you up when you’re down, they push you when you’re sat still, they smile in the face of adversity and they keep the momentum going – simply because of their attitude and outlook on life.
If you’re trying hard to make something work, a positive person will say ‘you can do it’ or ‘can I help’ or ‘that’s amazing’ or ‘what else can we do’ and this will motivate you, spur you on and as a result, contribute to your inevitable success when you reach your short or long-term goal.
This is why you should surround yourself with positive people.
Similarly, it’s just as important for you to be one of those positive people. Just as negativity breeds negativity, positivity breeds positivity. If you’re finding yourself with a little negative voice at the back of your mind, this will quickly disappear if you’re surrounded by positive, forward thinking individuals.
If you want to succeed in life or in business, you need to surround yourself with positive people. Don’t forget, success can be whatever it looks like to you – a happy, family home, a new job, growing a business, raising children, nailing a new hobby – anything.
Achieving success (whatever that might be) isn’t easy, which is why you need positive people as your support network. Positive people provide both mental and physical support, and most of the time without knowing they’re doing it, just because it’s in their nature.
With a positive person or people as your support, your guidance, your cheerleaders, your partners – anything is possible – believe me!
