From Dream to Vision: The Shift in My Perspective

When I was younger, I had a dream that I thought would define my life.

I often pictured myself lounging on a beach, sipping cocktails, living a life of ultimate relaxation. It was the kind of vision many people aspire to at some point in their lives.

I thought that one day, I’d get to that stage, kick back, and enjoy the rewards of hard work.

But today, that vision feels like a distant memory, and for good reason. The dream I had no longer holds the same appeal.

A Shift in Priorities

For anyone who knows me, the idea of lounging on a beach doing nothing seems almost absurd. I’m not the kind of person who can sit still for even two minutes. I thrive on movement, growth, and progress. Over time, my idea of success has evolved—what I once envisioned as a destination has now become something much more dynamic and impactful.

Now that I’m in my 40s, I’ve come to realise that my perspective on life, career, and purpose has shifted dramatically. What was once a dream of relaxation has transformed into a deeper vision for what I truly want to achieve—not just for me, but for those around me.

The Difference Between a Dream and a Vision

I’ve come to understand that having a dream and having a vision are two separate things. A dream is often about the ideal end goal—something you want to achieve in the future. For me, it was that idea of kicking back on a beach with a drink in hand. It’s a destination. It’s an end point.

But a vision is much more than that. A vision is about the bigger picture, the legacy you want to build, and the impact you want to have. It’s not static—it evolves and grows with you. It’s not just about personal satisfaction or comfort; it’s about creating opportunities and fostering growth for others.

Building Businesses That Create Opportunities

Today, my vision is no longer just about reaching an endpoint of personal enjoyment. It’s about building businesses that can create opportunities for people—both inside and outside of those businesses.

I’ve become addicted to the process of creating something that doesn’t just benefit me and my family, but has a ripple effect, empowering others along the way. That’s what gets me excited every morning. This is why the mission statement we crafted for The Interactive Team is ‘building something special’ – because that’s exactly what we’re doing.

The businesses I’m involved in now are not just vehicles for personal success. They are platforms that can offer opportunities for others to grow, learn, and achieve their own dreams. That’s what drives me.

The Vision I Live By

Looking back at my younger self, I can see how limited my vision was.

Now, I have a much larger perspective. My vision is about creating value—not just for me, but for everyone around me. It’s about constantly evolving, learning, and doing everything I can to give back.

In my 40s, I’ve learned that success is not a static goal, but a continuous journey. It’s about being part of something bigger than yourself. It’s about having an impact and leaving a lasting legacy through the businesses you build and the opportunities you create for others. That, to me, is what real success looks like.
