Motivation is something everyone talks about.
“How do I stay motivated?”
“How do I get my motivation back?”
“I’m just not feeling it at the moment”
And I get it. We all have days where we feel flat, distracted or just not up for it.
But over the years, I’ve realised something important:
Motivation isn’t something you wait for. It’s something that follows action.
Most people have it the wrong way round.
They wait to feel motivated before they start.
But the people who make progress? They start anyway.
Motivation comes and goes BUT momentum builds
Motivation is unreliable.
Some days you’ve got loads of it.
Other days? Nothing.
If you rely on it, your output becomes inconsistent. You move in bursts. Stop start. Up and down.
Momentum is different.
Momentum comes from doing something, even when you don’t feel like it.
A short session.
One task.
One step forward.
That small action creates movement. And once you’re moving, it becomes easier to keep going.
That’s where consistency comes from.
You don’t need to feel ready
One of the biggest blockers I see is people waiting until they feel “ready.”
Ready to start.
Ready to change.
Ready to take action.
The truth is, you rarely feel ready.
You figure things out as you go.
Every time I’ve made progress in business, fitness, or life, it hasn’t been because I felt perfectly prepared, it’s because I took action and adjusted along the way.
Clarity comes from movement, not thinking.
Small actions change your state quickly
If you’re feeling stuck, the worst thing you can do is sit in it.
Overthinking. Scrolling. Waiting.
The fastest way to shift your mindset is to move.
Go for a walk.
Train.
Start the task you’ve been putting off.
Even five or ten minutes of action can change how you feel.
Your energy shifts.
Your focus improves.
Your mindset resets.
And suddenly, things don’t feel as heavy.
Progress creates confidence
Confidence isn’t something you magically wake up with.
It’s built.
Every time you follow through on something.
Every time you show up when you said you would.
Every time you push through resistance.
That builds trust in yourself.
And once you trust yourself, everything becomes easier.
You stop second-guessing.
You stop waiting.
You just move.
You won’t always feel like it… and that’s the point!
This is the part people don’t like hearing.
You won’t always feel motivated.
You won’t always feel positive.
You won’t always feel energised.
And that’s normal.
The people who make progress aren’t the ones who feel great all the time, they’re the ones who keep going when they don’t.
That’s where the difference is made.
Make it simple
If you’re struggling with motivation, don’t overcomplicate it.
You don’t need a full plan.
You don’t need a perfect routine.
You just need to start.
One action.
One step.
One small win.
Then build from there.
For me, motivation isn’t something I chase anymore.
I focus on showing up.
Because I know once I start, everything else follows.
Energy follows.
Focus follows.
Motivation follows.
So if you’re waiting to feel ready, or waiting for that spark… don’t.
Take action first.
Because momentum will take you further than motivation ever will.
