Health Isn’t a Phase: It’s a Standard

There was a time where I treated health like a phase.

You know the one… “I’ll get back into it next week”
Or, “Once things calm down, I’ll sort myself out”

The problem is, things don’t calm down.

Life stays busy. Business keeps moving. Responsibilities don’t disappear. And if you treat your health as something you’ll eventually prioritise, it always ends up at the bottom of the list.

That’s something I had to learn properly.

Now, I don’t see health as something I dip in and out of. I see it as a standard.

Not perfect. Not extreme. Just consistent.

Because I’ve realised that when your health is off (even slightly) it affects everything.

Your energy drops.
Your focus slips.
Your patience shortens.
Your decision-making isn’t as sharp.

You might still get through the day… but you’re not operating at your best.

And over time, that compounds.

It’s not just physical – it’s mental too.

When people talk about health, they often focus on the physical side.

Training. Diet. Sleep.

All important but for me, the mental side is just as critical.

If your mind isn’t right, it doesn’t matter how strong you are physically, you’ll feel it.

Stress builds.
Clarity drops.
Small problems feel bigger than they are.

That’s why I’ve built things like mindfulness, movement and space into my routine. Not as a luxury but as something essential.

It’s how I stay level.

Consistency beats intensity every time

I’m not someone who believes in extremes.

You don’t need to train twice a day, cut everything out or overhaul your life overnight.

What matters is consistency.

Moving regularly.
Eating reasonably well.
Sleeping properly.
Taking care of your head.

Doing those things day after day is what creates real results.

The people who get it right long-term aren’t the ones going all in for a month, they’re the ones who stay steady for years.

You can’t lead properly if you’re running on empty

This is something I’ve become more aware of as my responsibilities have grown.

If you’re tired, stressed and not looking after yourself, it shows.

In your leadership.
In your communication.
In your energy.

You become reactive instead of calm.
Impatient instead of measured.
Clouded instead of clear.

And that impacts the people around you.

Looking after your health isn’t selfish, it’s responsible.

Because when you’re in a good place, you lift everything around you.

Health gives you capacity

One of the biggest benefits of taking your health seriously is capacity.

You can handle more.
Think clearer.
Stay focused for longer.

Pressure doesn’t hit as hard.
Problems don’t feel as overwhelming.

You’re more stable. More consistent.

And in business and life, that stability is everything.

It doesn’t need to be complicated

This is where people often overthink it.

Health doesn’t need to be complicated.

You don’t need the perfect plan.
You don’t need to wait for the right moment.

You just need to start taking it seriously.

Go for a walk.
Train a few times a week.
Get better sleep.
Create a bit of space in your day.

Simple things, done consistently.

For me, health is no longer something I “try to do.”

It’s part of how I live.

Because I’ve seen the difference.

When it’s right, everything feels easier.
When it’s not, everything feels harder.

So I don’t leave it to chance anymore.

I protect it.

Not perfectly but consistently.

Because at the end of the day, if your health isn’t in a good place, everything else becomes harder than it needs to be.

And if it is in a good place?

You give yourself the best possible chance to perform, lead and live well.
