Why I Focus on My Bubble to Stay Positive

The world is always a bit of a wild place at the moment.

There’s always something going on. News cycles, global issues, economic uncertainty, opinions everywhere you look. It’s constant and if you’re not careful, it can pull your mindset in all directions.

I’ve learned this the hard way over the years. If I spend too much time worrying about things I have no control over, I can become negative VERY quickly.

Not because I’m a negative person but because it’s exhausting trying to carry things that aren’t mine to carry.

So I made a decision a long time ago to approach things differently.

I focus on my bubble.

That might sound simple, but it’s one of the most powerful mindset shifts I’ve made.

Instead of trying to take on the weight of the world, I focus on what’s directly around me. As in, what I can influence, what I can improve and what actually matters day to day.

Because if my bubble is strong, positive, and moving in the right direction… then my world feels the same.

For me, that bubble starts with three key areas: family, friends and work.

Family comes first, always.

I make a conscious effort to check in, to be present, to understand how everyone’s doing and not just on the surface but properly. That might be conversations, time together or just making sure I’m there when it matters. If things are good at home, everything else feels more stable.

Then there are friendships.

Life gets busy (especially with children, of any age!) and it’s easy to let friendships drift into the background. But I’ve realised that staying connected to good people is essential. It fills your social bucket. It keeps you grounded. It gives you perspective outside of work and responsibility.

Even a simple catch up, a message or a coffee can reset your mindset more than you expect.

And then there’s work.

Work, for me, is about progress. It’s about making sure the people around me are supported, the team is moving forward and the business is growing in the right way. I focus on doing my job properly, leading with intention and creating an environment where people can succeed.

When those three areas are aligned, as in family, friends and work, everything feels more positive. More manageable. More in control.

And that’s the key… control.

There’s a lot in life we can’t control. The economy. Other people’s decisions. External events. Timing. Circumstances.

But there’s also a lot we can control:

  • How we show up each day
  • How we treat people
  • How we respond to pressure
  • How we look after ourselves
  • The effort we put into our relationships
  • The standards we hold

When I focus on those things, I feel better. Not because life becomes perfect, but because I’m actively influencing what’s within my reach.

That shift alone reduces stress massively.

It also creates momentum.

Because when you start making positive changes within your bubble, it spreads.

If you show up with the right energy, it lifts the people around you.
If you support your team, they perform better.
If you’re present with your family, relationships strengthen.
If you stay consistent, others follow.

You can’t control the world BUT you can influence your environment.

And that influence is powerful!

I’ve seen it time and time again. When you double down on what’s close to you, when you invest energy into your people and your space, things improve. Slowly at first, then more noticeably.

Your bubble becomes stronger, more positive, more resilient.

And once that happens, external noise starts to feel less overwhelming.

You don’t ignore the world, you just don’t let it control your mindset.

That’s an important distinction.

I stay aware. I stay informed. But I choose where I place my energy. And more often than not, I bring it back to what I can actually do something about.

Because that’s where real change happens.

That’s where progress happens.

That’s where happiness lives.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed by everything going on around you, my advice is simple…

Bring it back to your bubble.

Check in with your family.
Reach out to your friends.
Focus on your work.
Look after your health.
Control what you can control.

You don’t need to fix everything.

You just need to make your corner of the world a little bit better.

And if more people did that, imagine the impact it would have.

For me, that’s how I stay sane. That’s how I stay positive and that’s how I keep moving forward, no matter how chaotic things feel on the outside.
