Philanthropy isn’t a PR stunt for us, it’s part of the engine and I’ve no doubt made it that way because it’s something I’m so passionate about.
Giving back used to feel like something we’d do “when we made it.” Then we realised purpose and profit can reinforce each other by design. Anyone who knows me will know explicitly how much this means and matters to me. The reason our mission at The Interactive Team is ‘creating something special’ is because it covers so many areas that we really are trying to make a difference, including giving back.
Here are six ways we give back that actually make a difference.
1) Sponsoring Charity Events
Each year, we select charity events to sponsor or take part in in some capacity. Not only is this a great opportunity for our team to get dressed up and be social outside of the office, but it allows us to make a significant donation to charities working hard to make a difference within and around our community.
2) Customer or Staff Matched Campaigns
Once a quarter, we match customer donations or let customers or staff vote on the causes we support. Engagement climbs and so does loyalty. People love spending with businesses that reflect their values and they tell their friends. Choosing a cause close to people’s hearts matters more than you think.
3) Purpose Partners
Each year we choose at least two suppliers who align with a cause we care about, like sustainability, youth development, local enterprise. Shared values create smoother relationships, faster problem solving and more creative collaboration. It turns the supply chain into a value chain.
4) Round-Up Revenue
In some cases, we’ve added an optional micro-donation line to invoices. Uptake has been surprisingly high and friction free. Tiny amounts add up to real funds without burdening anyone. Customers appreciate the transparency and the choice.
5) Hire Locally, Train Widely
Apprenticeships, internships and entry level roles with real responsibilities, backed by structured training and a mentor. It’s a talent pipeline for us and a confidence pipeline for young people. The community wins and our teams do too when fresh ideas walk through the door.
6) Measure the Impact
Feel good isn’t enough. We track hours, outcomes, stories and pounds moved. Then we reflect on what we did, what changed and what we’ll do differently next year. Measurement keeps us honest and makes generosity repeatable.
When you design generosity into your model, you don’t trade profit for purpose… you unlock both.
The best brand story is the one your community tells about you when you’re not in the room. Let’s give them something worth talking about.
